Dubai - November 16, 2005

Shell Bitumen Middle East, engineering consultants Halcrow and Dubai’s First Security Group (FSG) joined forces in an attempt to secure the safety of the UAE roads during a seminar in Dubai on November 16, 2005.

The seminar, organised by Shell in association with Halcrow and FSG, was held in Grand Hyatt Dubai and highlighted Shell’s polymer modified bitumen technology, its safety aspects, and FSG’s commitment to the safety issues in the UAE.

Aimed at raising awareness of road safety, the event brought together representatives of the three companies, local contracting companies, Government and Dubai Municipality officials.

The seminar attracted speakers from Shell Bitumen, Halcrow and al-Naboodah Contracting who reviewed topics related to the polymer modified bitumen, Shell’s Cariphalte binder, deterioration of roads and modified bitumen trials being held in the UAE. The event also featured a speech on Cariphalte’s application in the construction of Dubai International Airport, as well as a report on Shell’s Mexphalte C pigmentable binder.

FSG’s chairman Major General Sharaffudin Hussain also attended the seminar and outlined traffic safety facts in Dubai and the importance of a safe road infrastructure. As part of FSG’s commitment to safety and security, the event was attended by the company’s vice-chairman Major General Nasser Abdul Razzak, the group’s managing director Craig Stanbridge and the general manager of FSG’s First Driving Centre, Robert Chandler.
