WS012 : Team and Two Person Spine Board Use

Description
Designed for qualified personnel who want to learn how to utilise their facilities spine board to manage a spinal injury with either a full team or just one helper.
Objective
To introduce personnel to the knowledge and skills required for efficient and safe use of the spine board and cervical collar in use at their facility working as a team and with just two personnel.
Syllabus
- Repetition of spinal anatomy and physiology
- Theory of recovery from the bottom of the pool after spinal injury
- Rescue breathing with face mask for spinal injuries
- Cervical collar theory and application
- Spine board and head immobilisation theory
- Spine board application for standing casualty
- Action for vomit with spine board
- Collar, board and head immobilisation with team in pool
- 2-person spinal management
Training Methods
Lectures / demonstrations / practical exercise
Student Assessment
- Continuous assessment, candidates must show competency in the above skills throughout the course
- Completion of course worksheets and a MCQP
- Practical rescue skills assessment
Validity
2 years from date of successful completion of the course, provided continuous practice is undertaken and recorded.
Entry Requirements
- Minimum age of 16 years on course beginning
- Hold a current recognised Lifeguard qualification
