WS002 : Beach Lifeguard Course


Duration

6 days - 38 hours training plus assessment

Description

The National Beach Lifeguard Qualification is acknowledged as the basic qualification for those involved in the supervision of water based activities in areas forming a shoreline.

Objective

To introduce candidates to the knowledge and skills required for efficient and safe shoreline activity supervision and incident management.

Syllabus

  • Water Safety
  • Accident Prevention.
  • Hazard Identification.
  • Principles of Operating Procedures (NOP/EAP)
  • Operational Communication Systems
  • The Role of the Lifeguard
  • Observation and Zoning.
  • Dealing with the Public
  • Principles and Methods of Rescue
  • Use and Maintenance of Basic Rescue Equipment
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Adult Child, Baby
  • First Aid
  • Deep water rescue techniques
  • Open water casualty handling and incident management

Training Methods

Lectures/demonstrations/practical exercises

Student Assessment

Theory and skills. Note there is no written exam.

Validity

2 years from date of successful completion of the course.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16 years on first day of course
  • Must be able to swim a distance of 400 metres in 8 minutes
  • Must be able to dive to a depth of 2m

Notes: Participants who have qualified as National Pool Lifeguard within the last 12 month can be accredited 12 hours training.

Should candidates not meet the required entry standards they will be asked to leave the course. There will be no refund of course fees.
